Materials: Ata grass, rattan
The Kerawang basket bag has the potential to add a boho flare to even the simplest of outfits. The piece is handmade in Bali using traditional weaving techniques known to the local artisans for generations. The material used to produce this sturdy bag is a unique to Indonesian type of rattan known as the Ata grass. The skilled artisans start by weaving the grass into an intricate pattern, then letting it dry up and harden in the sun and eventually curing it in a mixture of honey and coconut, which gives the bag not only its beautiful caramel colour, but also its specific, smoky smell. We love this magical process, which ensures each bag is a unique, slightly varied piece with a soul and history!
These bags come lined with different Batik patterned material, so each one is unique.
Care & Wear:
The bag will naturally soften over time and its colour might fade or darken as often happens with natural materials. Treat it with love: Avoid crowding it when it’s in storage to help maintain its shape. If the bag gets squashed or folded, spray lightly with water and reshape it carefully.
All our bags are 100% handmade which means that small variations in the design, size, colour and fastenings may occur. Those differences caused by the handcrafted nature of the goods make each piece unique and are one of the reasons we love them so much!
This piece doesn’t just look good – you can feel good about it too! Made with 100% sustainable materials, this product has been handmade in Bali and by buying it you’re supporting the local Indonesian artisans who deserve fair compensation for their magnificent work.
